University College Hospital Ibadan Performs Its First Open Heart Surgery

The University College Hospital (UCH),
Ibadan, the first teaching hospital in
Nigeria, has scored another first in
medicine, with its open heart surgery, a
feat which attracted wide accolades.
The University College Hospital (UCH)
Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier teaching
hospital has recorded a major
breakthrough in medicine in the country
when it successfully carried out a
“bloodless” open-heart surgery on a
patient.
The operation known as Coronary Artery
By-pass Gland (CABG) was carried out on
19-year-old Kazeem Ojo by a team of
surgeon from the hospital lead by Chief
Medical Director, Professor Temitope
Alonge.
The patient was expectedly happy at the
feat performed by the hospital which has
drawn commendation from health
professionals.
The cheery news on the successful CABG
was broken last week by Alonge who said
the surgery was carried out without
complication. This indeed was a major
breakthrough for UCH and the Nigerian
Medical practitioners.
An elated Alonge, said with the feat,
Nigerians would no longer need to travel
abroad for such tertiary treatment as
more Nigerian doctors are currently being
trained to offer such medical care in the
hospital.
The orthopaedic and trauma surgeon
said, “following acquisition of the Cardiac
capitalisation machine by Toshiba in 2011,
it was installed and put to use in 2013,
UCH is able to resuscitate its open heart
surgery. That allows us to evaluate the
state of the arteries supplied by the heart
muscles and if for any reasons there is
any blockage, the blood vessels can be
opened up with the balloon, but if the
damage is extensive such that we cannot
do the so called balloon and geo-plasty,
then we resolve to open heart surgery.
“This technically means that the chest will
be split into two, the heart is exposed
and then, the blood that is entering and
leaving the heart is diverted into a
machine called the heart-lung machine
and we stop the heart.
“So, technically the person is dead and
the blood is going through the machine
and going back into the patient and then
repair work are carried out on the heart
and after that we wake the heart up
again.”
Professor Alonge was not alone in the
euphoria of the celebration of the great
achievement. Members of the Nigeria
Medical Association (NMA) and Nigerian
Union of Allied Health Professionals also
came to savour in the joy of the medical
breakthrough.
The national President, Nigerian Union of
Allied Health Professionals, Dr. Felix
Olukayode Faniran, described the feat as
a great breakthrough.
According to him, “the essence of our
being here is to examine health care
practices in the country, one of them is
what you heard Professor Alonge said
that they just had a breakthrough in open
heart surgery being carried out at UCH.”
Speaking further on the successful
bloodless open heart surgery, Professor
Alonge said that issue of open heart
surgery was not new in Nigeria, the ability
to resuscitate the procedure started last
year at UCH.
He explained further that the University of
Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu was
actually the first institution to have
embarked on open heart surgery but the
challenges have always been that of
equipment, manpower and ability to
sustain it.
To offer its services to others in the
country, the management of the
institution last week invited well-meaning
Nigerians and corporate bodies to
support an endowment which it launched
to further assist patients needing open
heart surgery but could not afford the
high cost of treatment.
He invited all Nigerians to support the
good cause by assisting in raising the
standard of medical care been offered in
the hospital.
According to him, the population of
Nigerians seeking medical treatment for
cardiac surgeries such as open-heart
surgeries, hole in the heart conditions in
foreign countries would take a downturn,
as patients would now be able to access
these advanced surgeries at the state-of-
art Cardiac Catheter Resuscitation Centre
(CATH LAB) in UCH.
He added: “There is no better place to
have a cardiac surgery than in the country
you reside. Proximity of care is important
for recovery because follow up treatment
is needed for some cardiac cases.
“This facility is comparable to what
obtains in India, United States and the
United Kingdom. Nigeria would now be
the place to come to for cardiac surgeries
in Africa. That would be our medical
tourism.”
The University College Hospital (UCH),
Ibadan was established in November
1952, in response to the dire need for the
training of medical personnel and other
healthcare professionals for the country
and the West African sub-region, remains
the tertiary hospital with the highest
number of patients on its list annually.
The oldest teaching hospital in Nigeria,
has evolved over the years, with the finest
tradition of infrastructure renewal to keep
abreast with modern technology, to be
able to offer the best medical care
obtainable anywhere in the modern
world.
The management of the hospital,
comprising of renowned medical
practitioners, has in addition to Federal
Government efforts in refurbishing the
teaching hospital, taken steps to widen
the scope of services provided with the
resuscitation of the open heart surgical
procedure of the hospital
Since its inception, the hospital, which is
strategically located in heart of the city of
Ibadan, has recorded so many feats in
medical care, training and human
development.
In the area of training and human
development, UCH, according to
Professor Alonge, has trained over 6,051
doctors, 501 dentists, 4,513 nurses, 2,307
midwives, 471 peri-operative nurses,
1,062 laboratory scientists, 576
environmental health officers tutors, 326
primary health care tutors, 590
community health officers, 640
physiotherapists and 551 health
information management personnel.
The patients turn out in the accident and
emergency (A&E) Department of the
hospital alone averages 6,000 annually
and about 160,000 new patients are seen
in the various out-patient clinics every
year.
In May 2006, a surgical team successfully
performed open-heart surgery on three
paediatric patients, an important
landmark in medicine in Nigeria.
Over the years, UCH has also produced
many core professionals for the nation’s
health sector, and more of its products
have continued to excel overseas.
What is open heart surgery?
An open heart bypass surgery is
performed under general anesthesia,
which requires that the patient be on a
ventilator during surgery.
Surgery begins with harvesting the blood
vessels that will become the grafts. The
saphenous vein in the leg is commonly
used because it is long enough to create
multiple grafts. If the saphenous vein
cannot be used, vessels from the arm can
be used instead. The left internal
mammary artery is used for a single graft
and is taken once the chest is opened for
surgery.
Once the saphenous vein has been
recovered, the chest is opened by making
an incision along the sternum, or
breastbone. The surgeon then cuts the
sternum, allowing the chest cavity to be
opened, giving the surgeon access to the
heart.
In the traditional CABG procedure, the
heart is stopped with a potassium
solution so the surgeon is not attempting
to work on a moving vessel, and the
blood is circulated by a heart-lung
machine. At this time the heart-lung
machine does the work of the heart and
the lungs and the ventilator is not used.
The surgeon places the grafts, either
rerouting blood around the blockage, or
removing and replacing the blocked
vessel. The amount of time on the heart-
lung bypass machine is determined by the
speed at which the surgeon is able to
work, primarily, how many grafts are
needed.
Once the grafts are complete, the heart is
started and provides blood and oxygen to
the body. The sternum is returned to its
original position and closed using surgical
wire, to provide strength the bone needs
to heal, and the incision is closed.
The University College Hospital (UCH),
Ibadan, the first teaching hospital in
Nigeria, has scored another first in
medicine, with its open heart surgery, a
feat which attracted wide accolades.

Two FCMB Staff Reportedly Stole N13.5m From Bullion Van

Two workers with the First City Monument
Bank Plc, Adeyemi Adebayo, 32, and
Ogundare Julius, 46, have been arraigned
before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s court
for allegedly stealing €50,000 belonging to
the bank.
The men were asked to transport the
money in a bullion van from the bank’s
headquarters at Marina, Lagos, to a
branch of FCMB at Adetokunbo Ademola,
Lagos Island.
Adebayo, the cash transit officer,
allegedly connived with Julius, the bullion
driver, to divert the money to an agreed
place.
The matter was said to have been
reported at the police station when the
bank officers at the receiving branch did
not see the funds.
They were subsequently arrested and
arraigned on Tuesday on four counts of
conspiracy and stealing.
The charges reads in part, “That you,
Adeyemi Adebayo and Ogundare Julius,
on December 31, 2013, at First City
Monument Bank Plc Headquarters,
Marina, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial
District did conspire between yourselves
to commit felony to wit: Stealing.
“That you being the cash transit officer
and bullion driver respectively to First City
Monument Bank Plc, Marina in the
aforesaid magisterial district, did steal the
sum of €50,000, property of FCMB.”
The police prosecutor, Inspector George
Nwosu, who stood in for the resident
prosecutor, ASP Etim Ekankuk, said the
offences were punishable under sections
409, 18, 72, 285 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The defendants said they were not guilty
and elected summary trial.
The defence counsel, Ola Ogunbiyi and
Lekan Ayinla, asked for the defendants
bail in liberal terms.
The magistrate, Mrs Demi Ajayi, admitted
the defendants to bail in the sum of N1m
each with two sureties in like sum.
“The sureties must be at least 40 years,
gainfully employed and resident in Lagos.
One of the sureties must be a blood
relation of the defendants with evidence
of tax payment and affidavit of means.
The address and means of livelihood of
the sureties must also be verified,” she
added.
The matter was adjourned till February
19, 2014 for mention.

END OF HIV: Nigeria Scientists Make Landmark Breakthrough In AIDS Treatment

A group of Nigerian scientists have found
what could be a novel treatment for
Human Immune-deficiency Virus, HIV,
infection that may slash the cost of
treatment.
The team of scientists, including graduate
students and researchers from the
Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike, Abia state, University of Nigeria,
Nsukka, and the Federal Medical Centre,
Umuahia, Nigeria have been able to show
that synthetic Aluminum-magnesium
silicate (AMS) has antiretroviral effects
that could lay a perfect track for
affordable and effective therapy for HIV.
Results of their work titled “Assessment of
Antiretroviral Effects of a Synthetic
Aluminum-magnesium Silicate” published
in the British Journal of Medicine &
Medical Research and featured on
SCIENCEDOMAIN international shows a
significant reduction in the titres of the
virus when HIV positive plasma was
incubated with AMS.
Head, Department of Veterinary Medicine
at Michael Okpara University of
Agriculture, and the lead scientist,
Professor Maduike Ezeibe, said the
discovery could provide an ultimate cure
for the virus that has defiled so many
scientific efforts to curtail it in the past.
Ezeibe reacted aluminium silicate with
magnesium silicate to obtain the synthetic
aluminum-magnesium silicate devoid of
impurities.
Giving further details Ezeibe noted:
“Molecules of aluminum-
magnesium silicate have platelets
that possess both negative and
positive electrical charges on their
surfaces and their edges. HIV on
the other hand is negatively
charged. So the simple scientific
understanding that opposite
charges attracts ensures that the
HIV virus binds to the AMS and is
discharged from the body
alongside.”
“AMS is normally used as a
stabilizing medicine that does not
really have toxic effect on the
patient, so it makes it a suitable
agent for mopping up HIV virus
from the body,” he said.
The author noted also that “Adsorbing out
HIV means that millions of new virions
usually released from each infected cell
would be inhibited from establishing new
infections in more cells,” adding,
"Thus, HIV would be prevented from
overwhelming the body immune systems
and the Acquired Immunodeficiency
Syndrome (AIDS) stage may be prevented,
in which case cure could be achieved,"
Ezeibe said.
Pastor E.A Adeboye prophesied at the
beginning of this year, 2014 that there
would be medical break-through in
Nigeria this year and it is manifesting
already. UCH carried out their first open-
heart surgery and it was successful and
now there's a break-through to the
epidermic that has troubled man for
decades HIV / AIDS.

How Parents Locked Up Their Daughter For Almost 3 Years In A Cage Like Rabbit In Bayelsa

Where she was kept would stir emotion
even in a stone hearted being. What came
to the mind of many was why any parent
would banish their own child to such a
despicable solitary confinement.
The grubby dungeon,  located in front of
her family apartment, was built with
carton board and roofing sheets
ostensibly to ward off the elements and
gave it the semblance of a dwelling place.
The less than four feet high structure
could be mistaken for cage for dog.
Sadly, this had been the abode of 16-
year-old Blessing Olokumo in the last two
and a  half years.
Blessing, a twin, whose little frame
betrays her age, cuts the picture of
neglect and abandonment. Her parents
might have locked her up in the cage
which had  no window to keep her away
from the public out of shame or wanted
her dead.
Blessing’s condition is pathetic. Unlike her
twin sister in senior secondary school
class 2, Blessing never had the
opportunity of seeing the four walls of a
school due to her health challenge with
the result that she could only
communicate in Isoko, her mother’s
native dialect.
Though the father is an indigene of
Ayibabiri community in Kolokuma-
Opokuma local government area of
Bayelsa State, the mother, Binaese, is
from Igbide in Isoko South local
government area of Delta.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that though
Blessing’s was born normal, her problem
started about 13 years ago when she was
aged three in Delta State.
She was said to have suffered from
convulsion, which was not properly taken
care of by her parents probably due to
ignorance. The father was then said to
have acted against doctor’s advice by
forcefully taking her away from the
hospital where she was receiving
treatment because he could not afford
the N15,000 medical bill.
The convulsion was said to have
worsened over time due to poor medical
attention leading to her abnormal
behaviour.
The ailment is also believed to be
responsible for her retarded growth
when compared to her twin sister, a
beautifully grown girl.
Although physically challenged kids like
her deserve decent life, love and adequate
medical attention, in her case she was
treated cruelly; locked up in a cage
lacking window for proper ventilation and
light.
The place where she was confined for
almost three years by her father shares
fence with a medical facility where she is
now receiving treatment.
Co-tenants, who could have notified the
authorities on the girl’s plight, looked the
way ostensibly for fear of incurring the
wrath of her father whose relation,
Sunday Vanguard learnt, owned the
house they are living in.
Succour however came her way last
weekend when a concerned native of
Okolobiri alerted the group, the Mary
Slessor Twin Foundation, which rescued
her and took her to the Niger Delta
University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri
where she is receiving treatment.
When this reporter, on Thursday, visited
what once served as her home, it was
discovered that a rubber carpet had been
laid on the bare floor with a view to
making it look a little decent due to the
public interest generated after her
predicament was reported.
A resident berated the girl’s parents. “This
is the height of man’s inhumanity to man,
especially coming from one’s own father.
The girl though is retarded doesn’t
deserve the treatment meted to her.
Before now, she used to walk freely
around from her parents apartment to
her mother’s kiosk by the roadside
without disturbing anybody,” the resident
said.
The girl, on admission at the teaching
hospital courtesy of Mary Slessor Twins
Foundation, cut the picture of a six-year-
old. Her confinement and lack of care
apparently left her malnourished, as
according to the doctor handling her
case, “she is 16 year old but her weight is
like that of a five year old.”
Acting President of the Foundation, Mr.
Tonyon Ebitei Robert, said she was
locked up because she was defecating
around the family  house.
According to him, Blessing’s father, who is
also a twin and a security official with the
Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital,
Okolobiri, allegedly built the cage and
locked up his daughter to keep her away
from the main house.
“She was kept like a rabbit. She was given
food when it was available and was
allowed to sleep in her vomit, faeces,
urine. She lost weight and could have
died,” Robert said.
He explained that the group,  known for
its campaign against maltreatment of
twins, was contacted by concerned
indigenes of Okolobiri community where
the Olokumo family resides.
Blessing, he said, was rushed to the
teaching hospital where she is being
given medical treatment.
Though the father was not around when
Sunday Vanguard visited as he was said
to have gone to Yenagoa for a
verification exercise, the mother of the
girl was sighted at the hospital keeping
her company. The woman, who identified
herself as Binaese, said the girl was
locked up because she was roaming
about and  disturbing other neighbours, a
claim that was dismissed by a resident
who said the girl though has health
challenges hardly disturbed  anybody.
Dr. Deji, who was attending to the girl
when Sunday Vanguard visited her, said:
“We gathered that when she was three
years, she started having convulsion and
the convulsion worsened over time and
due to the poor control of the convulsion
she started having abnormal behaviour.
“About three years ago, the father
decided to keep her in an enclosure
outside the house and, over time, she
degenerated. She wasn’t well kept and
her weight wasted. She is 16 years but
her weight is like that of a five-year-old
child.”
According to him, the girl is a bit reserved
most likely as a result of the trauma she
may have undergone. The doctor went on:
“There are signs of obvious neglect over
time. It is the case of a child having
seizure disorder which some people
might call epilepsy, and  was not treated
appropriately. She was not given
adequate medical attention and kept  out
of the house in a restricted environment
and barely fed which  resulted in
malnutrition.
“She is responding gradually to treatment
and is a bit more interested in her
environment. When I first saw her, she
refused my coming close to her but she
now obeys instructions.” President of the
Mary Slessor Twins Foundation,  Robert,
gave kudos to the medical personnel
handling her case saying she has
improved tremendously. According to
him, the group would lodge formal
complaint with the police and the welfare
department of Bayelsa State Ministry of
Women Affairs.
“Criminal charges of child abduction,
inhuman treatment, child molestation and
failure to enroll the child for proper
education will be brought against the
parents,” he said.
Also, the Chief Nengi James Foundation,
on Thursday, visited the girl  in hospital
and made a cash donation to assist the
Mary Slessor Twins Foundation pay
Blessing’s  medical bills.
Represented by the immediate past
Secretary of the state chapter of the Civil
Liberties Organisation (CLO), Comrade
Alagoa Morris, the Chief Nengi James
Foundation urged parents to cater for
their kids no matter the circumstances.

Robbers Stole Pope John Paul II's Blood & Golden Crucifix Stolen From Church in Italy

Thieves broke into a small church in the
mountains east of Rome over the
weekend and stole a reliquary with the
blood of the late Pope John Paul II .
A custodian, Franca Corrieri, said she had
discovered a broken window early on
Sunday morning and had called the
police. When they entered the small stone
church they found the gold reliquary and
a crucifix missing.
John Paul, who died in 2005, loved the
mountains in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
He would sometimes slip away from the
Vatican secretly to hike or ski there and
pray in the church.
Polish-born John Paul, who reigned for
27 years, is due to be made a saint of the
Roman Catholic church in May, meaning
the relic will become more noteworthy
and valuable.
In 2011, John Paul's former private
secretary, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, gave
the local Abruzzo community some of the
late pontiff's blood as a token of the love
he had felt for the mountainous area.
It was put in a gold and glass circular
case and kept in a niche of the small
mountain church of San Pietro della
Ienca, near the city of L'Aquila.
Corrieri said on Monday the incident felt
more like a kidnapping than a theft. "In a
sense, a person has been stolen," she
said.
She said she could not say if the intention
of the thieves may have been to seek a
ransom for the blood.
Apart from the reliquary and a crucifix,
nothing else was stolen from the isolated
church, even though Corrieri said the
thieves would probably have had time to
take other objects during the night-time
theft.
Some of John Paul's blood was saved
after an assassination attempt that nearly
killed him in St Peter's Square on 13 May
1981.

Queen Elizabeth II down to her last million due to overspending

According to new reports, the Queen of
England is down to her last $1.6m in
reserves after royal overspending. She
was once the richest woman in the world
(in the 80s) and in 2010 Forbes mag
estimated her net worth at around
$450 million and now she's broke? Nah!!
Read the report below..
From Eonline
Perhaps Queen Elizabeth II could
learn something from her thrifty
granddaughter-in-law Kate
Middleton. The 87-year-old
monarch has been overspending
the royal family's famous fortune,
according to a report published by
the Commons Public Accounts
Committee on Monday, Jan. 27.
Following her courtiers' advice, Her
Majesty the Queen's reserve fund
has fallen from £35 million ($58
million) in 2001 to just £1 million
($1.6 million) in 2014. The report
states the royal family is "spending
above their means and dipping
into the reserves...the balance now
stands at an all-time low."
Continue...
The report also reveals that a number of
palaces are in "dangerous or
deteriorating" conditions. Forty percent
of them, in fact, are "below acceptable
standards." It's not exactly new
information, as Queen Elizabeth II knows
that there's an $82 million backlog in
repairs due to tightened government
funding.
Taxpayers fund the royal palaces in
Britain, comprised of more than 300
buildings. In 2013, the public spent about
£31 million ($51 million) renovating and
operating the facilities. The report urged
the treasury to "get a grip" and help the
royal family to prevent "further damage
and deterioration."
According to the report, royal staff
members have been forced to catch rain
in buckets to protect art and antiquities
in some locations. Queen Elizabeth II's
"antiquated" boilers are more than 60
years old.
"The Queen has not been served well by
the Household and by the Treasury," said
Margaret Hodge, the labor chairman of
the Public Accounts Committee. "We got
the impression that they just haven't
tried to make greater savings. Here we
are, we're all in it together, but they are
failing to eek better value for the Queen.
They are dipping into their reserves in a
way that just isn't sensible."
"If you look at the Tower of London and
its visitor numbers it makes you think
that there's potential there. Have they
done their darndest to maximize value
for money?" Hodge wondered.
The royal household has pledged to
introduce a 10-year maintenance plan to
resolve the backlog. It has also pledged
to increase the size of its reserve fund.
Married to Prince Philip since 1947,
Queen Elizabeth II has four children and
eight grandchildren—including Prince
William & Prince Harry.

went to the school. On arrival, all
the students were gathered at one

This Newly Invented Bra With 'Heart Rate Monitor' Won't Unhook Unless The Girl Wearing It Is In-love With The Intruder

A Japanese lingerie brand has created a
bra that can only be removed when its
wearer is experiencing ‘true love’.The
company called Ravijour has come up
with a bra that will only unhook if the
woman is in love with the person doing
the opening. The underwear comes with a
heart rate monitor that with a mobile
phone app which unhooks Rate and no
amount of force removes it.
The bra works by monitoring heart rate
increases specifically caused by hormone
levels secreted by the adrenal medulla –
the gland that releases adrenalin into the
bloodstream and was invented to save
women from guys who are only after their
bodies.
According to the product designer..
, "It knows how women truly feel.A built
in sensor reads the woman’s heart-rate
signal and sends it to a special app via
Bluetooth for analysis.”Once the bra
exceeds the 'True Love Rate' it then

Few weeks ago, Kanye attacked this 18-
year-old guy inside the waiting room of a
chiropractor's office , if you missed the
full gist, read HERE .
Now according to TMZ, Kanye has
reached an out of court settlement with
the kid for a reported sum of $250 (41
million naira). The young boy's family
members says that was a fraction of what
they demanded for.
Reports this is the reason to why the boy
has been uncooperative with the DA's
office. He has not answered questions or
gone to see them to file a battery charge
against Kanye.

Gov Rotimi Amaechi – I Fasted 10 Months To Become Rivers State Governor

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State
while at the Redeemed Christian Church
of God, RCCG, in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local
Government Area of the state, revealed
that he fasted for 10 months, 6 a.m. to
6p.m., to become governor of the state.
He said:
“I will evangelise. I know most
people will be surprised because I
am not a pastor. So, in this case, I
am part of the evangelism. One of
the ways I have evangelised is to
repeatedly tell people my past
experience of God’s intervention,
when I fasted for 10 months,
6am-6pm, praying to God to come
down.
That was how I became governor. I
went to court. Instead of the court
to say, Amaechi go and contest
election, the court said Amaechi go
and be the governor of Rivers State.
And because I make public my
experience, a lot of people now
believe that if they focus on God,
God will hear their prayers. So, I am
also evangelising by testifying to the
public about the glory of God in my
life.
We have employed more teachers.
We are doing bio-metric registration
exercise and that is why we are
going to pay them next month. We
shall pay them by installments until
the arrears are cleared. I will
continue to serve the poor, I will
not compromise on service
delivery.
What I want you (Christians) to do
is to pray for all of us as a state so
that we can come out of the crisis
plaguing the peace of the state.
Please, also pray for those who
have not received Christ to repent
and change from their evil ways.”

Hazard can be on par with Messi & Ronaldo, insists Mourinho

Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea midfielder
Eden Hazard has the ability to match the
levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano
Ronaldo.
The Belgium international has been a key
figure in Chelsea’s title pursuit this season,
scoring nine goals in 22 Premier League
games.
And while Mourinho claims the 23-year-old
possesses the determination required to
become one of the best players in the
world, he admits Hazard’s position as a
winger will restrict his opportunities in
front of goal.
"Does he have the capacity to reach the
level of a Messi or Cristiano? Now I say yes,
because his evolution is great,” Mourinho
told reporters.
“He has time to become a great, great
player and arrive where they are – he's 23,
and Cristiano is 28, Messi 26 – so there is
space for further evolution, and there's a
great ambition in him.
“They are also top goalscorers, of course,
and that makes them even more special.
Eden is a winger, a pure winger, so I don't
think it's possible for Eden to be top scorer
in the league. That normally affects
people's judgement.
"But if he can be a match-winner, a player
with high performances during a season,
what I feel now in him is responsibility in
every aspect.
“Against Manchester United he made a
fantastic tackle in our own box.
“Against Stoke, he tried to kill the game,
have initiative, dribbling at people, trying to
make things happen. The kid is going in a
fantastic direction."
But despite his praise, the Chelsea manager
warns that Hazard may have to do more off
the pitch in order to stand a realistic
chance of winning the Ballon d’Or.
"If he wants the Ballon d'Or, he must build
the entourage politically for that,"
Mourinho said.
"Without the entourage and the politics, he
doesn't get the Ballon d'Or. That's a
different story."

Half-Caste Baby Business Booming In Ghana - Report

According to reports, mixed race baby
business is booming in the beautiful city
of Accra in Ghana. With $3,000, you can
have a mixed race baby without having
s*x with a person of a different race.
Ghanaian journalist Stephen Kwabena
Effah writes about this crazy new trend
on Infoboxx.com
In Ghana, they are regarded as
hotcakes. Their complexion put
them on a fairly higher pedestal, as
they are the ones every guy or lady
craves to date - the half-caste!
But ever thought that a time will
come for half-caste babies to be
bred in Ghana? Well, thanks to
modern science, one can have a
half-caste or mixed-race baby
without necessarily having to marry
or have s*xual intercourse with a
person of different race.
Following in the steps of artificial
insemination, a novel venture to
create a new society –‘Half-caste
World’- on the African continent is
bourgeoning in Ghana’s capital,
Accra.
As ridiculous as it may seem, considering
the fact that the word ‘half-caste’
denigrate one’s status in society,
especially in Europe and the Americas,
advocates of this enterprise believe the
creation of this breed of people of bi-
racial identity positions Africa for a better
future.
“Half-caste World is founded to transform
Africa into the land of riches and beauty,
the land of every man’s dream. We
believe life began in African and will end
in Africa,” the advocates posted on their
Facebook page.
The campaign is targeting both African
couples and single women who are
desirous of giving birth to half-caste
babies the opportunity of a lifetime at a
relatively affordable cost.
Although the advocate of this campaign
has not revealed his identity,
investigations conducted by
www.infoboxx.com pointed to one
Augustine N.K. Boateng, a graduate of
“University Mohammed Premier” hotc in
Morocco.
When contacted on a phone number
provided on his newly created website, he
declined to provide details on the
procedure and the level of patronage,
saying “I just started it and wouldn’t want
to involve the media at this early stage”.
However, our investigation revealed he
started operating about four months ago
from Madina Estates in Accra.
It was further revealed that Boateng
provides gametes from almost all
nationalities including the UK and the US
at a cost of 3,000 US Dollars upwards,
depending on the process and the
individual’s request.
There are questions about how gametes
are procured, the insemination procedure
and even the regulatory regime. Boateng
claims that the procedure to insert the
“gametes can be done both in a clinic and
at home.”
The Half-caste babies entrepreneur prides
himself of giving women and couples half-
caste babies with “mental and physical
beauty”.
“A new world has began and it is like the
tide, you either swim along or get left
behind. You too can be a blessing for the
next generation,” he posted on Facebook.
To Boateng, there is what he has termed
“a vast racial gap between Africa and the
rest of the world” which ought to be
bridged through breeding of half-caste on
the continent.

Pope Francis Urges Nigerians To Avoid Disintegration

Pope Francis has called on all Nigerians
irrespective of their faith to shun anything
that could lead to disintegration, adding
that all Nigerians should embrace unity
and strengthen the cord of divine love
that binds them together.
The Pope made the call yesterday in
Ibadan at the formal installation of the
new Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan
Archdiocese, His Grace Gabriel Leke
Abegunrin.
Speaking through the Vatican
Representative in Nigeria, Papal Nuncio
Augustine Kasujja, Pope Francis said, “We
Bishops should understand that
consecrated people are not just material,
but are gifts that enrich the dioceses.
“With efforts of cooperation and
constructive dialogue at all levels, in this
era of New Evangelization, with your
assiduous pastoral care, the light of faith
will surely continue to shine even brighter
in Nigeria. All the faithful should remain
joyfully united with their new Pastor.”
Speaking about the new Archbishop who
replaced Alaba Job, the Pope said, “The
Vatican is convinced that, endowed with
the necessary qualities and highly
experienced in pastoral matters, Bishop
Abegunrin is worthy to take over the care
of the Metropolitan Archdiocese.
“Ibadan is a prestigious and historical
centre of education and formation. It is
here that you find the first Federal
University in Nigeria. Ibadan has also a
large number of different religious
congregations.”
Archbishop Abegunrin who was formerly
in Osun State said in his speech that he
would remain faithful to God and the
church.
Describing his installation as the
Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese as a
new challenge, he promised to continue
to hold tenaciously his personal
philosophy which is “Love conquers all
things”.

Davido & South African Group Mafikizolo Collaborate On New Music

Oskido, the male half of Mafikizolo, the
South African singing group behind hit
song, Khona, revealed on twitter that they
are working on a musical collaboration
with Nigerian music sensation Davido. He
didn't reveal the name of the song which
is being recorded in South Africa but he

Arab Contractors Expatriate Throws Down Nigerian Colleague From A 2 Storey Building In Enugu!

A Nigerian, simply identified as Arinze,
was feared dead yesterday, after an
immigrant working with the
Arab Contractors Construction Company
(O.A.O) threw him down from the second-
floor of a two-storey building undergoing
construction at the new Enugu State
Secretariat, Enugu.
According to theParadigm , the immigrant
worker, identified as Abdul Lateef,
apparently from one of the Arab-speaking
countries, allegedly pushed the deceased
down from the building at about 11.30
a.m.
The immigrant worker whom sources said
is feared by many in the company for his
brutality, pushed the deceased down after
their disagreement on how a particular
task should be carried out at the site.
Workers of the company had attempted to
lynch the expatriate, but for the timely
intervention of the
police, who took him away.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police
Command  said it has commenced “a full-
scale investigations into the alleged
incident”.
A release made available to reporters in
Enugu by the command’s public relations
officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said “ the victim
was rushed to a nearby hospital where he
is now responding to treatment”.
But the South-eastern zone of the Civil
Liberties Organisation (CLO) insisted that
“the Nigerian who was pushed down by
the expatriate has died.
In a statement by its zonal director, Olu
Omotayo, the CLO  described the action of
the expatriate as:
“a barbaric act in all ramifications.
This is not the first time we are
receiving complaints of torture and
brutalisation of Nigerians by
expatriates of some of these
construction companies. These
actions show how Nigerians have
always been treated with disdain by
these so-called expatriates in the
construction companies.”
Omotayo further condemned the brutal
killing of Arinze and demanded that the
police charge Abdul Lateef for murder.
“Nigerians cannot continue to be
treated like animals in their own
country,” he stated.

New United star: I expected long Chelsea stay

New Manchester United man Juan Mata
has admitted in an open letter to Chelsea
fans that he intended on staying at the
club for as long as they wanted him.
Mata yesterday completed his
£37.1million deal to take him away from
Stamford Bridge, but the Spanish
midfielder has seemed to make it clear
that it wasn’t what he wanted.
After becoming a fans’ favourite at
Chelsea, it seemed like Mata could
possibly follow the likes of Frank
Lampard and John Terry in becoming a
Blues legend, but when Jose Mourinho
came in the summer, Mata found himself
out of favour and sitting on the bench
for the last six months.
It did not look as if he was going to move
in January, but after Mata was
substituted against Southampton on New
Year’s Day, he reacted angrily and made
it clear that he was frustrated with his
limited chances with the Blues.
With him being the club’s player of the
year for the last two seasons, it was
strange as to why Mourinho didn’t take a
liking to him.
Letter
Mata said this in his letter, as reported by
ESPN: “Before last summer, my intention
was to stay here for a long time; as long
as the club wanted me to, and to keep
winning trophies for Chelsea FC.
“This is how happy I was in the club and
in the city.
“I will never forget all the affection given
to me by the Chelsea fans. From the very
first day until the last. I will always feel
the gratitude towards you. Always.
“I have experienced some complicated
situations from a personal point of view,
mainly during the last six months.
“Every message I got through the social
media, every nice word you have said to
me on the street, and of course, your
support in the stadium, has made me feel
incredibly proud of the Chelsea fans.
“I won’t forget the faith you put in me
when I was given the player of the year
award the last two seasons. I feel really
proud and I will never forget those
nights.
“Thank you so much for the way you
have treated me, you have been
unbelievable.
“I hope you understand that after going
through a complicated and, for me, new
situation in the last few months, I
believe this is the best choice in order to
carry on with my football career and to
keep enjoying this sport.
“I thank all my former team mates and I
wish them the best. My years in Chelsea
have left me with great friends. Friends
forever, football rivalries aside.”
Debut
Mata is now expected to make his debut
for Manchester United on Tuesday
against Cardiff City, but it could very
well be from the bench.
He has already been greeted by his new
team-mates, with Rio Ferdinand, Robin
van Persie and David de Gea posting
messages on Twitter.
The signing of Mata has excited the
United fans and in general football fans,
as he is one of Europe’s best playmakers
and him staying in the Premier League is
only positive for the league.

Mohamed Salah completes Chelsea transfer

Egyptian international winger
Mohamed Salah has completed
his move to Chelsea from
Basel on a five-and-a-half-
year-deal for a reported fee of
£11m.
The 21-year-old becomes the
first player from Egypt to play
for the Blues, having ended
weeks of speculation as to
whom he would sign for, with
Liverpool reportedly
interested in his services.
Salah revealed his delight at
joining the West London outfit
and hoped to have a great
career ahead. "I'm very happy
to sign for Chelsea, such a big
club in the world," Salah said.
"I hope I can make the Chelsea
supporters happy and have a
good career at the club for
many years to come." The
talented Egyptian star, who
was on target for Basel in both
Champions League games
against Chelsea this season,
will wear the number 15 shirt.

Mourinho 'so sorry' over Mata sale

Jose Mourinho says it was hard to sell Juan
Mata to Manchester United , and is "so
sorry" he could not keep the midfielder
happy at Chelsea.
Mata was named as the club's player of the
season in 2012 and 2013, but fell out of
favour under Mourinho and completed a
£37.1 million move to Old Trafford on
Saturday.
The Stamford Bridge boss has opted to play
Oscar - who scored the only goal of the
game in an FA Cup win against Stoke on
Sunday - instead, and thinks Mata deserves
to play regular first-team football.
"These are decisions a manager has to
make, but for me it was a hard decision,"
Mourinho told BBC Radio 5 Live. "I'd love
to have him in my squad, absolutely.
"But to have a player in this situation is
hard. He deserves that Chelsea open the
door for him.
"I like people to be happy. I'm so sorry I
couldn't make him happy in this squad -
I'm so sad with that, but I build my team
around Oscar playing as my No.10."
Mourinho expects Mata to receive a warm
reception from the Chelsea fans when he
eventually returns to Stamford Bridge as a
Manchester United player.
He added: "He's very classy. I think he's a
player that stays in the fans' hearts and
also in those of his colleagues.
"I'm just with him six months and I like
him a lot. Imagine the people who have
been with him for three years. He stays in
the club history - he won important
trophies and people loved him.
"He will come here with a Manchester
United shirt on one day and the people will
show him that."
