Mourinho reveals who is responsible for Chelsea striker's new dawn
The Chelsea boss is credited with
transitioning the Blues striker from
expensive £50m flop into a resurgent
forward making a nuisance of himself
across the attacking zones, however,
Mourinho has refused the praise and
instead believes it should be shouldered
firmly by somebody else.
That somebody is Fernando Torres.
'I repeat I did nothing,' said Mourinho, as
reported by the club's official website. 'I
did what I always do in trying to get the
best out of the players, but in a very normal
way. Fernando is responsible for his self-
motivation and his commitment and the
way he is working day by day
'I don't want Fernando to be influenced by
these wins. I want him to be stable and not
worried about proving himself or worried
about scoring or not scoring. Against
Newcastle [United] he just needs to work
for the team.'
Torres was rested for the League Cup trip
to Arsenal mid-week but scored in both
games last week; a brace against Schalke in
the Champions League and a winner
against Manchester City.
Regardless of whether he continues his net-
busting run at Newcastle United's expense
on Saturday, Mourinho is simply hoping
that the Spaniard builds on the form that
saw him attract the headlines against City,
when he worked for the team and when he
made the runs.
Translating from a Portuguese football
saying, Mourinho concluded: 'A big team is
a state of soul, and a collective soul, and at
this moment all my players have this. It
doesn't matter to the soul if you score or
don't score, if you play well or don't play
well. It is a good squad and good people,
and we try our best every match
